Fix Your Feed: The Easy Guide
Your feed shapes how you think. Let’s make it smarter, calmer, and more real.
Step 1: Clean Out the Junk
Spend 2 minutes scrolling. If you see any of these, unfollow or mute:
• Drama influencers who thrive on conflict
• Meme pages with political bias or fake facts
• Anonymous “news” accounts with no sources
• Rage-bait creators who post just to make you mad
• AI-generated content with no context or verification
If a post makes you feel instantly angry, smug, or superior, that’s algorithm bait. Make sure to unfollow or mute these post/reels as well!
Step 2: Follow Trusted Sources
Add 3–5 accounts that share real, vetted info. Try these:
-
@bbcnews - Instagram and TikTok - Global news, fact-checked
-
@npr - Instagram and TikTok - Deep dives, youth-friendly explainers
-
@civicsunplugged - Instagram - Youth-led civic education
-
@all_sides_now - Instagram and TikTok - News from left, center, and right
-
@newslitproject - Instagram - Media literacy tips
-
@civilpolitics - Twitter - Research on bridging divides
Step 3: Change Your Settings
Make your feed work for you, not the algorithm:
• Turn off “Suggested Posts” or switch to “Following” mode on your reels.
• Turn off notifications so you’re not constantly pulled in
• Use “Favorites” to prioritize thoughtful accounts
Step 4: Engage Smarter and with Respect
Before you comment or share, ask:
• Is this true?
• Is this helpful?
• Is this respectful?
You don’t have to post less, just post better.
Step 5: Try the 3-Day Challenge
A quick way to reset your feed:
• Day 1: Unfollow 5 junk accounts
• Day 2: Follow 3 trusted ones from the list above
• Day 3: Share one post that teaches something real
Final Reminder
Your feed is your space. YOU control it.
